Every dog deserves a life filled with love and care. Their wagging tails and loving eyes can brighten anyone’s day. Sadly, not all dogs receive the kindness they deserve. It’s heartbreaking to think about those who mistreat these sweet and defenseless animals.
One such pup, Ladybird, experienced this cruelty firsthand. Abandoned and tied to a tree, she waited bravely, hoping someone would show her compassion. Her hopeful eyes and brave heart remind us of the importance of treating all animals with love and care.
Spotting A Defenseless Puppy
Driving down a Kentucky road, a driver noticed a brown and white pup tied to a tree. Heartbroken, they called Lewis County Animal Shelter for help.
Rescuers quickly responded and brought the fragile puppy to the shelter.
“She was just so stoic sitting there by the tree, waiting for someone to notice her. So thankful that the shelter found her and took her in. She was found not far from the shelter, actually.”
— Kim Desroches of Friends of Lewis County Animals told The Dodo
Ladybird, the puppy’s new name, arrived at the shelter feeling scared and unsure. Shelter staff recognized that the big public shelter was not ideal for her. She needed love and affection in a more caring environment.
Kim Desroches saw Ladybird’s photo on the shelter’s Facebook and her heart broke. The sweet puppy, only about six to seven weeks old, had experienced great cruelty but was now safe.
Determined to help, Desroches aimed to find a foster home for Ladybird. She knew the puppy risked being exposed to various illnesses if she stayed at the shelter.

Ladybird Leaves The Shelter
Ladybird was soon placed in a loving foster home. Her foster mom showered her with affection and care. Love helped Ladybird to relax and become playful.
Love chased away all of Ladybird’s fears, and the little pup became relaxed and playful.
After some time in foster care, Ladybird moved to Licking County Humane Society in Ohio. The rescue announced on January 27th, 2024, via Facebook, that Ladybird is pending adoption.
Everyone hopes that she finds her forever home soon. Ladybird deserves to be cherished and boundlessly loved. She will never feel helpless and abandoned again.
